PL509 OUTPUT TUBE CONVERSION with ULTRA- MODIFICATIONS

on NEW CIRCUIT BOARD!

TRIODE BOOST© CIRCUITRY allows the output stage to run in Triode for that ultra seductive Triode Sound yet allows each tube to fully conduct it's rated current at lower plate voltages resulting in less heat, longer tube life and MUCH HIGHER POWER than was ever available in the Futterman OTL Circuit before.
CATHODE FOLLOWERS to drive the output tubes keeping the amp ultra stable and allowing extended bass response.
BASS UPGRADE By changing the low frequency pole points of the amplifier we are able to give the amplifier real honest bass with real sock that rivals any good solid state amp. This adds reliability and protects output tubes.
BYPASS CAPS: We add polypropylene bypass capacitors to the power supply,output caps and other strategic places in the circuit to give even sweeter highs and unbelievable clarity and dimension.
ADDITIONAL REGULATION: Regulation for the front end driver stages provides for much better imaging, bass control and repeatable performance independent of power supply fluctuations.
IMPROVED TRANSPARENCY: We adjust resistor values in the front end for improved high frequency response and a more transparent presentation and modify the grounding scheme to provide a more focused image .
ADJUSTABLE GAIN (via Negative Feedback): We add a three way gain switch (27, 30, 33 db) to adjust negative feedback which TUNES the amplifier to your speakers & room.
GOLD INPUT & EDISON PRICE MUSIC POSTS: Provide the most unrestricted pathway in and out of the amplfier for your music.
SIMPLE SET-UP, BIAS & AUTO BALANCE: Regulated circuitry in the front end keeps the front end properly biased over the entire output range. This was not the case in the original Futtermans where big transients interacted with the front end to throw it out of whack. With the addition of the cathode follower output drivers biasing the output stage is easy and stable. There is a current sense resistor to measure output quiescent current easily. The AUTO BALANCE circuitry is a servo that maintains output stage balance between the upper and lower tubes throughout the life of tubes and eliminates that adjustment.
CONVERSION to the EL509 output tube.Since the 6LF6 12 pin output tube was discontinued the supply of NOS (new old stock) has become pitifully small and what is left are generally unreliable and unmatchable. What is left are mostly returns from earlier replacement and production run purchases. I've not had good luck finding any suitable stock. SO in order to keep your cherished amplifier up to date and running I am offering a conversion for most amplifiers to the EL509. The EL509 is virtually electrically identical to the 6LF6 except that it is a 9 pin base and thus requires a different socket. The EL509 is in current production and on the market at considerably cheaper prices than the 6LF6. This also makes it much easier to find a matched set.
RUNS COOLER AND IS MORE RELIABLE. The big output tubes are now in the rear - NEXT TO THE FAN!- where they belong. The FRONT END circuitry is sheilded from the heat for long component life.
CHASSIS DAMPING MATERIAL: We add chassis damping material and shock mount the power transformer for resonance free quiet operation. The circuit board and fan are mounted on elastomer energy absorbing shock mounts.

OTL1 Style Regulation

The OTL1 (pictured below on this page) is the 4 chassis flagship of the NYAL OTL Series. It used an outboard B+ power supply that incorporated 12 transistors, 2fans, a separate power transformer and filter bank. It was a Gizmological wonder but they failed way too often and wasted much power in the form of heat.
Now because of the tremendous improvement in the efficiency of the output stage it is possible to incorporate a high reliability regulator inside the OTL3 chassis that will give the Audible Dimensional Stability of the OTL1 without the extra 75 lbs of weight per channel. This additional circuitry can quite simply be installed as part of your upgrade for an additional fee. The benefits include:
